The same list of 70 guests, with other types of table:

Table	Seats	Tables	Capacity	Spare
Round table of 8	8	9	72	2
Round table of 10	10	7	70	0
Round table of 12	12	6	72	2
Rectangular table of 8	8	9	72	2
Rectangular table of 10	10	7	70	0

What if there’s a head table or children?

With an imperial head table of 12, that leaves 58 guests for the tables of 10: 6 round tables of 10 + 1 imperial table of 12, with 2 free seats.
If 15% of the guests are children, 11 sit at tables of their own and the combination becomes 8 round tables of 10, with 10 free seats.

Frequently asked questions

What if more people come than expected?

With 7 tables of 10 you have room for zero more guests without adding tables. If the list grows by more than that, you need one more table.

What if some guests drop out?

If the list drops to 60 guests, 6 tables of 10 will be enough. When guests drop out, their seat is freed up in the plan and you can bring together whoever is left.

Should I count babies?

Only if they take up a seat. A baby on a lap doesn’t need a chair, but a child who eats at the table counts as a guest.
